Beautiful Harp Music

The harp adds an almost magical quality to a wedding. You are not only ensuring beautiful music for your wedding; you and your guests get to enjoy the view of the harp decorating your wedding venue. The harp is more versatile than a piano and makes a richer, more complete sound than a single instrument like guitar, violin, or cello. Cheryl Grohn plays the piano and organ as well as the harp, so you can mix and match those three instruments for your wedding for the same price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do harpists usually perform for weddings? Harpists are typically booked for one hour but can play longer when requested. Typically, the harpist will be asked to play for an additional hour while cocktails are served, or during the reception. Musicians typically require a break of 10-15 minutes per hour.
What kind of music can harpists perform? Classical music is often requested for weddings, but many other genres of music can played. Ask the artist about their setlist. Also check with the church for religious services, as many have limits on what can be played.
Can harpists perform outdoors? Many harpists are willing to play outdoors as long as their instrument will be protected from the elements. This means adequate cover from rain or sun is required, as well as a dry, firm, flat space to set up the harp and chair.
How much space does a harpist require? Harps are fairly large instruments, and there is typically a chair and music stand as well. Additionally, there might be a microphone and amplifier. Allow a space 6 x 9 feet for the harp and equipment.
Are harps loud enough on their own or is additional amplification required? The harp will easily be heard in small to medium spaces without amplification. For larger venues and outdoor events, a microphone and PA system can be used to amplify the harp. Discuss your venue, number of guests, and sound desired with your harpist before booking the event. In some cases, the venue's PA system can be used with the harp.
Can the harp play with other instruments? Yes, the harp sounds lovely with instruments such as flute, violin, cello and guitar. The typically wedding contract does not include rehearsal time, so if you want the harpist to play with a friend, be sure to discuss this with the musician.
